The below is a useful grid in calculating what type of electrical circuit you should get installed when architecting out a server room, datacenter rack or networking/telco rack.

The key is the range of the “Total Capacity” in kW. 208v circuits can sustain about 1.75X more kW than a 120v circuit, thus give you more room for growth.

We recently signed up with datacenter provider Cyxtera and they will actually run a 208v, 30Amp circuit to your rack, even if you only ordered 2kW. This way if you grow and add equipment, you don’t have to install a new circuit to your cage, you just pay for more kWs.
